So, you’re ready to buy your first dab rig. Congratulations! This is a super exciting time – but before you jump into things, let’s make sure you have all the info.

There are a whole bunch of options, and doing research will keep you from feeling overwhelmed by them all.

Types of Dab Rigs

If you’re familiar with dab rigs, you know that there’s a handful of types to choose from. If you have no idea what we mean by ‘types’ of dab rigs, that’s cool too. You’ll understand by the end!

Glass Rigs

Glass rigs are definitely the most popular. These are the dab rigs you’ll almost always see on the shelf, ready to be sold. The reason why they’re so popular is because they’re made of borosilicate glass, which is durable and heat-resistant. Perfect for beginners and experts alike!

It’s easy to control the temperature of a glass rig, and they’re known for the best taste. We highly recommend.

E-Rigs

E-rigs are often used in place of a glass dab rig. They’re portable and battery-operated, making them the most convenient option you can find. All you have to do is set your desired temperature, give it a couple minutes to heat up, and add your cannabis concentrate. Since you have the most temperature control out of any other option, there’s the promise of a super flavorful hit.

Our favorite E-rigs are from Puffco and High Mountain Imports, and you’ll find those on our shelves!

Mini Rigs

The most common mini rigs are glass – the best of the best when it comes to taste. The smaller the piece, the bigger punch the hit lands. If you like simplicity and don’t smoke very often, a mini rig might be just what you’re looking for.

Silicone Rigs

This rig is for the person who values convenience and affordability. That’s not to say silicone rigs are cheap quality, but they work well with glass and quartz accessories while being noticeably less expensive than other options. These rigs clean up well (just throw them in the dishwasher) and can take a whole lot of wear and tear.

Recycler Rigs

A recycler rig ‘recycles’ smoke through the rig a few times before it reaches you, which makes for a smooth and effective hit – every single time. These rigs are often made of glass and they’re durable, too. If you’re willing to make a nice investment for your dabbing hobby, you won’t regret the recycler.

So, What Dab Rig Do I Pick?

Now that you know what’s out there, let’s get into some personal considerations.

  • Your Dabbing Style

If you don’t plan on dabbing often, there’s no reason to invest in the most expensive or intricate dab rig. But, on the other hand, if you want to dab daily, you want a rig that can keep up with you.

Since it’s your first one, we recommend starting out small to figure out what you like. There’s plenty of time for more rigs down the road!

  • The Size of Your Rig

Your first rig probably shouldn’t be big and bulky. It should be something that’s user-friendly and accessible; most dabbers use small rigs for quick delivery and constant consumption. AKA they like to take small hits frequently! So, if that sounds good to you, instead of turning dabbing into an event, then smaller is probably safer.

  • Remember the Nail

The dab nail is a key component of the dabbing experience. It sits on your glass piece and holds your extracts, then you heat it with your torch until those extracts reach a vapor point. It’s all very science-y.

The nail comes in a few different materials, including glass, quartz, ceramic, and titanium. The material affects how long the nail stays hot, and some materials can (lightly) affect the flavors (for example, with a titanium nail, your dab might end up tasting a little metallic, which is why it’s important to season the nail).

  • Show Off Your Style

We’ve already talked about the slew of styles of dab rigs, but what about your own personal style? Keep your aesthetic in mind when you’re shopping for a rig, as there are different colors, shapes, textures, and accessories.

This is the fun part! There’s no wrong way to make the rig your own.

  • Prioritize Quality

While you might not want to spend an arm and a leg on your first rig, you should never compromise the quality. If you do, the material could crack from the heat, which is inconvenient at best and unsafe at worst. To make sure you’re getting a good rig, shop with a reliable supplier – like Doja!

  • Last Thing… Your Budget

There are dab rigs of all prices, just like there are tons of styles and sizes. Make a plan of how much you want to pay for your first rig, and stick to that budget. It’ll make your search that much easier!

Welcome to Dabbing

Gone are the days of browsing online or wandering the dispensary wondering how in the world to choose a dab rig. We hope that, after getting a better understanding of the rig types and the thought process that goes into buying one, you’ll be better suited to pick out your very first rig.
